Following the impressive victory at the season opener in Oschersleben, GRT faced the next round of the DTM 2024 from May 24 to 26. For the second of eight tracks on this year\u2019s calendar, the Lamborghini Squadra Corse-supported team from Styria traveled to the DEKRA Lausitzring.
The DEKRA Lausitzring features a challenging layout with a mix of high-speed straights and technical corners, including the notorious Turn 1, which requires precise braking and handling. The circuit is 4.534 kilometers long with 14 turns, making it a demanding track for drivers to master. The DTM weekend at the DEKRA Lausitzring attracted an impressive crowd of 45.500 visitors, showcasing the event’s popularity and the excitement surrounding the races.<\/p>\n
Saturday’s race was marked by extreme weather conditions. Heavy rain led to the race being red-flagged twice. In the chaotic early phase, Engstler initially dropped to the penultimate position. However, thanks to a clever strategy, he managed to fight his way back into the top 10 in his LIQUI MOLY and MOUNTAIN WOLF-sponsored Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n GT3 EVO2.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, the 24-year-old Lamborghini Young Driver started from sixth place in the second race, laying the groundwork for another strong result. In the first stint, Engstler held his position in the chasing group until his pit stop on lap 17. After a safety car restart on lap 32, he made decisive maneuvers against his competitors and crossed the finish line in a solid fifth place.<\/p>\n
In the overall standings, GRT is in fifth place in the team ranking with 59 points. Engstler, who once again showcased his talent at the Lausitzring, is in sixth place in the drivers’ standings with four point finishes from four races. The next DTM race weekend for Grasser Racing is scheduled for June 7 to 9 at Circuit Zandvoort. On the Formula 1 track in the Netherlands, the Austrian Lamborghini team will compete again in both the DTM and the ADAC GT Masters with two Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n GT3 EVO2s each.<\/p>\n

The competition in the DTM is incredibly tough, and everything has to align perfectly to succeed here. In the first qualifying, we had 19 cars within six-tenths of a second. This shows how quickly things can change in either direction. We have to take responsibility as a team for the result on Saturday. We misjudged the tire pressures during the race. Our pace was strong in the wet, but as the track dried, the pressures were too high, and that cost us. On Sunday, we got everything right with the fifth place. Luca was incredibly strong again and impressively held his own against the top drivers. It was a well-deserved result. Unfortunately, Christian had a lot of bad luck again, but his pace was always there. We are very happy with the performance of both our drivers and the entire team.
